Experiencing the St. John's Imagination -
An Artistic Workshop in Eurythmy
and Beeswax Painting

We begin with movement: The heights, the depths and the midst. The Archangel Uriel, reddish, hovering above with white wings of the dove. Below, the Archangel Gabriel, with sheltering gesture, blue, like Mother Earth. In the middle, the cross and circle, a kind of Sun-Cross, green, the Son in harmonious balance. The Archangels Raphael and Michael to the left and right, completing the four corners of the cross. Moving together, feeling together, we experience what time and space can teach us of these Guides of Humanity.

In the painting room, we read the St. John's Imagination. We begin simply, applying 2 or 3 colors, blue, green, and red. Our recent expression of the Archangels through eurythmy, our present movement as color is laid down, and the clean aroma of citrus thinner all find their way into our paper.

Back in the Eurythmy room, we learn the circling movements of the seasons. We try them with the verses from the Imagination. The Archangels, in turn, passing along the golden vessel around the circle.

We return to painting the Imagination.

We end by moving the eurythmy forms of the St. John's Imagination with music. Flute for the heights. Xylophone for the depths. Lyre for the midst. Then all of the instruments and Archangels together. The colors of our paintings sound with the music in our hearts as our movement reveals the Imagination.

In autumn, we will meet again for the Michaelmas Imagination.
